Salah surpasses Ronaldo and Gerrard in the Premier League

Striker Mohamed Salah has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo and Steven Gerrard in the number of times he has won the Premier League Player of the Month award.

On March 14, the Premier League awarded Salah the Player of the Month award for February. The Liverpool striker led a field of six nominees, in a vote that combined public votes on the EA SPORTS website with expert panel assessments.

This is Salah’s seventh win, equalling the record of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero. Former Liverpool captain Gerrard and Ronaldo, who played for Man Utd between 2003-2009 and 2021-2022, are tied for second with six titles, followed by Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie with five each.

In February, Salah scored both goals as Liverpool beat Bournemouth 2-0, before adding to his tally in draws with Everton and Aston Villa (both 2-2), and wins over Wolves (2-1) and Man City (2-0). The Egyptian striker is the first player to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions.

Salah did not score, but provided an assist in the 2-0 win over Newcastle. The 32-year-old now holds the record for assists in a single season for Liverpool, 17, just three short of the Premier League record.

This is the second time this season Salah has won the Player of the Month award, after the first time in November 2024. He is the first player to do this since Erling Haaland and Marcus Rashford in the 2022-2023 season.

Salah started playing in England with Chelsea in 2014. After more than two years moving to Italy, the Egyptian striker returned to the foggy country from the 2027-2018 season to play for Liverpool.

Liverpool are currently 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal with nine games remaining. If Salah and his teammates can maintain their current position, they will win the Premier League for the second time, after first in the 2019-20 season.

Best players of the month from the start of the 2024-2025 Premier League season:

August: Erling Haaland (Man City)

September: Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

October: Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)

November: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

December: Alexander Isak (Newcastle)

January: Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth)
