Lionel Messi is already playing well for Inter Miami CF, just a few weeks into the new season.
In Miami’s Concacaf Champions Cup second-leg matchup with Sporting Kansas City, the 37-year-old superstar scored the first goal in spectacular fashion.
After skillfully controlling a cross from Luis Suárez with his chest, Messi let the ball to bounce and then sent a half-volley beyond Kansas City goalkeeper John Pulskamp at the near post. Miami won 2-0 overall thanks to the goal in the first-round meeting.
In the icy first-leg match at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Messi also scored in the 56th minute.
Messi’s half-volley continued his impressive start to his second full season in Major League Soccer. The seasoned forward not only scored goals in both Concacaf Champions Cup legs but also recorded two assists in Inter Miami’s league debut against New York City FC on Saturday.
Tuesday, Inter Miami easily won with to goals from Tadeo Allende and Suárez before halftime, increasing the home team’s lead to 4-0 overall.
