Mahomes, 28, once revealed that he eats four to five small meals a day “to make sure I’m not eating too much at any one time.”
And the Chiefs sports dietician Leslie Bonci has told The U.S. Sun that Mahomes does not eat particularly interesting foods when he is on campus.
The NFL star rather prefers to stick with foods he is comfortable with, like turkey burgers.
“Consistency is more than eating the same things all the time. It’s part of familiarity and superstition – you eat what you like, you eat what feels good,” Bonci told us.
“And a lot of players [like Mahomes] do that. And we might say, ‘Oh that’s really boring!’ But it’s not boring to them.
“It works for them because those are the foods they like to eat, be it a turkey burger, some rice or a baked potato.
“You may say, ‘That doesn’t sound really intriguing’ but it doesn’t really matter.
“That’s part of what feels good for them to eat on a regular basis.”
Mahomes went viral after the Chiefs’ AFC Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens after NFL cameras showed off his “dad bod.”
He was seen shirtless and yelled out to the team, “Hey, great job today! Like I’ve been saying, we ain’t done yet!”
However, fans noticed that the NFL superstar had a flabby stomach, with some fans calling his physique a “dad bod.”
Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII, Mahomes poked fun at a question when he was asked if he’d rather have a six-pack of abs or another Super Bowl ring.
“Another Super Bowl for sure,” he answered.
“I have a six-pack and it’s just under the dad bod. If you feel, there might be some skin there, but underneath that, the six-pack is there.”
Bonci revealed that the offseason is the ideal opportunity for Mahomes to make a drastic change to his body and diet.
“If we have players that are looking to make changes to their body composition, you don’t do that during season because there are too many things that they need to think about,” she said.
“If someone wants to put on some mass or decrease some body fat, that’s when we get a little more stricter, a little more prescriptive so to speak about what they eat so they get what they need and minimize on some of those extra things.”
Bonci recently told The U.S. Sun she is leaving the Chiefs after a 10-year run.

The sports nutrition expert is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, having previously worked for the city’s major league teams.
Bonci traveled to Kansas City two times a month for a two-and-a-half-day spell — and eventually realized the commute was too much.
“I actually will not be there anymore, I have tendered my resignation because it’s too much travel for me,” Bonci said.
“It was just too much between Pittsburgh and Kansas City. It was two flights and there’s not a lot of flight options anymore.
“It could be two full days of travel which is a little crazy.”
