Lionel Messi has finally spoken out about Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent success on YouTube, after the Portuguese star broke records with the launch of his channel. In just four hours, Ronaldo surpassed the five million subscriber mark, setting a new record on the platform.
Ronaldo’s “UR” channel quickly became the fastest to reach 100,000 subscribers in just 55 minutes, and to surpass the million mark in 90 minutes. By 6pm BST, Ronaldo had doubled Lionel Messi’s channel’s 2.16 million subscribers, achieving an impressive feat in record time.
Responding to the news, Messi said: “The numbers speak for themselves. It’s impressive what Cristiano has achieved in such a short time, but I’m not surprised. He has always been a pioneer in everything he does.”
Among the most notable videos on Ronaldo’s new channel is one in which he plays “Mr. and Mrs.” with Georgina Rodriguez, whom he referred to as his “wife,” sparking rumors of a possible secret marriage. The channel also includes free-kick challenges with his son and a video titled “Meet Georgina.”
Despite Ronaldo’s overwhelming success, Messi remained calm and focused on his own career and projects: “We all have our own paths and I am happy for him. I will continue to focus on my game and on what comes next.”
With his YouTube channel, Ronaldo appears to be paving the way for his retirement from football, as he continues to explore new ways to connect with his fans around the world.
