Mbappe recreates Messi and Ronaldo’s celebration. |
In the early morning of February 20, the French superstar scored a hat-trick to send Pep Guardiola’s team out of the game, helping Real Madrid win 3-1 (6-3 on aggregate) in the Champions League play-off round. Mbappe had a memorable performance with some sublime plays, as well as showing his admiration for two football legends through the way he celebrated.
At the Santiago Bernabeu, Mbappe has been recreating the style of Ronaldo and Messi in celebrating goals. Mbappe’s opening goal was a delicate chip over Ederson’s head, and his celebration was no less special.
Mbappe raised his arms, simulating a high ball, just like Ronaldo did when he celebrated a goal for Al Nassr against Al Wasl earlier this month. The moment sent the Bernabeu crowd into a frenzy.
For the third goal, Mbappe had a Messi-like celebration. Mbappe held up three fingers, counting each goal, recreating exactly how Messi celebrated when he scored a hat-trick against Mallorca in 2011.

Mbappe honored two legends, but he gradually asserted his own position. After this match, the 26-year-old striker reached the milestone of more than 500 times contributing to goals in his career, an impressive number.
Mbappe has long been open about his admiration for Ronaldo and Messi. He once said about CR7: “I just want to admire the greatness of Cristiano. There will be no one else like him. He has left his mark on football history.”
With Messi, Mbappe also has a lot of affection after playing together at PSG: “Playing with Leo is something I really miss. When Leo is around, you always have the feeling that the ball will come to your feet at the right time. It’s a privilege that almost only he can bring. Playing alongside Messi is special.”
Returning to Real Madrid, coach Carlo Ancelotti and his team will face Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 of the Champions League this season.
