Patrick Mahomes’ post-Super Bowl LIX era includes a new hairstyle.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback appeared to debut a brand new look over the weekend at a family event.
In photos shared online, Mahomes, 29, said goodbye to his iconic mohawk hairstyle and hello to a shorter cut ahead of the NFL offseason.
The pictures quickly got sports fans talking, with some praising the haircut as a total touchdown.
“Mahomes finally got rid of the mohawk and that could only mean one thing!” one user wrote via X on Monday, February 17. “MVP and SBMVP season loading…redemption season.”
Another follower added, “I can’t believe he really did it! RIP iconic Mohawk and the signature ‘Mahomes’ hairstyle. I really like the new look! Diff vibes for 2025 season.”
Others, however, were quick to make light of the new haircut after Mahomes and the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on February 9.
“Eagles really made Mahomes crash out,” one fan joked on X. Another football fan wrote, “Mahomes cutting his hair off either means we’re winning a Super Bowl next season or winning 4 games no in between.”
While Mahomes’ focus in recent months has been on his family and football, the athlete previously hinted that a new hairstyle would be coming soon.
While appearing in Netflix’s 2023 docuseries Quarterback, Mahomes admitted that he was considering changing up his look.
“Hair’s gone next year. Going with different hair next year,” he told his trainer, Bobby Stroupe. “I can’t have two kids and a Mohawk. ‘Cause I gotta be a dad at some point. … Imagine being 40 years old with this haircut.”
Deal of the Day
In January, Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child — daughter Golden Raye. The couple, who tied the knot in March 2022, are already parents of daughter Sterling and son Bronze, who arrived in February 2021 and November 2022, respectively.
Patrick isn’t the only NFL quarterback to switch up his hairstyle. In July 2024, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made headlines when he debuted his blond ‘do after a buzz cut from barber Darnell Bonner.
“I got bored, that’s about it,” Burrow, 28, shared about his haircut, noting that he made a bet with teammate B.J. Hillto chop off his signature locks. “B.J. said if I buzzed it and bleached it, he would do it, too. So now everybody’s gotta hold him accountable ’cause he’s gotta do it in the next week.”
