On May 7, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) confirmed that 14-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., the eldest son of famous player Ronaldo, has been called up to the country’s U.15 team, with the message: ‘The DNA of Selecao has been continued’.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is playing for the youth team of Al Nassr, where his father, Ronaldo, 40, is in his third season playing in the Saudi Pro League. Ronaldo Jr. has been training with his father since he was a child. He has played for the academy teams of famous clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and now Al Nassr, where his famous father used to play.
Ronaldo Jr, 14, has joined the Portugal U15 team, taking another step forward in his journey to becoming a professional footballer following in his father’s footsteps.
At Al Nassr, Ronaldo Jr. began to show his talent, playing impressively as a winger or striker like his famous father. At the age of 12, Ronaldo Jr. was promoted to play for the Al Nassr U.15 team. The boy quickly proved his talent, becoming the main goal scorer of the Al Nassr youth team.
Being called up to the Portugal U.15 team is another step forward for Ronaldo Jr. in his journey to pursue a professional football career, to continue the career of his famous father. Ronaldo has confided many times: “My wish is to continue playing until the day my son plays with me in the same club or national team. Only then can I be satisfied to retire. Let’s wait and see, it depends more on me than on him.”
After Ronaldo Jr was called up to the Portugal U.15 team, Ronaldo was extremely happy. He expressed his love with a message on Instagram: “So proud of you, son!”.
Ronaldo Jr. will join the Portugal U.15 team under coach Joao Santos, preparing to compete in the Vlatko Markovic international friendly tournament in Croatia from May 13 to 18. Here, Ronaldo Jr. and his teammates in the Portugal U.15 team will face opponents from Japan, Greece, England and a fourth opponent that has not yet been determined.
Ronaldo Jr. is eligible to play for teams such as the United States (where he was born), Spain (where he grew up) and Portugal (where his father was born and raised).
Meanwhile, Messi’s eldest son, Thiago, 12, is playing for the Inter Miami Academy’s U.13 team. He plays as a holding midfielder, while his younger brothers Mateo and Ciro also play for the Inter Miami Academy’s U.10 and U.6 teams, respectively.
Messi’s sons are also eligible to play for Spain (where they were born and raised), or Argentina, following their father.
According to the Argentine press, if Messi’s eldest son, Thiago, officially pursues a professional football career, in the future he will choose to wear the Argentina national team jersey.
Thiago is a big admirer of Barcelona’s 17-year-old star Lamine Yamal. The youngster has yet to be called up to Argentina’s youth teams, but is on the radar of scouts from the Argentine Football Association, according to Argentine newspaper Diario Ole.
