Kansas City Chiefs superstars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have already proven themselves on the football field — but they might have to do the same on the basketball court after they were challenged by Shaquille O’Neal last Thursday.
Mahomes was a guest on NBA on TNT on Thursday night ahead of the Boston Celtics-Miami Heat Eastern Conference Final, and Shaq tried to get the reigning league MVP and Kelce into a two on two basketball game.
“I don’t know, you’re not moving really well, so I might have a chance,” Mahomes joked, prompting O’Neal to remind everyone he has a new hip after surgery.
Travis Kelce responded to the challenge himself on an episode of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back Show on Wednesday.
“You know what it is? Maybe we would go in San Antonio [Spurs] [Greg] Popovich style ‘Hack A Shaq’ baby we gonna make Shaq earn these things dog,” said Kelce with a laugh. “Honestly, he might throw me in the rim if I started hanging on him a little bit so I need to chill out. I don’t want to poke that beast, man. I don’t want to poke that guy.”
Kelce and Mahomes are competing against the Golden State Warriors All-Star duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in “The Match” charity golf challenge starting on Jun. 29, and it looks like they might be up for another challenge.
Kelce went on to say that the only chance they would have against Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith is by getting the Hall of Famer to the free throw line.
“It’s the only chance we got,” he laughed.
Regardless of the sport, a Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce vs. Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith competition would be must-see television.
