Carragher: ‘Ronaldo is embarrassing’

Jamie Carragher has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo for calling himself the best player in history and criticising other leagues.

""
Many fans and experts were not happy with Ronaldo’s comments earlier this week.

“His interview was disgraceful,” Carragher told Sky Sports ’ talk show. “When a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, at his age, starts doing interviews with his friends, just to talk about other leagues, coaches and players, it’s a sign of insecurity.”

Carragher insists Ronaldo is one of the greatest players ever and “he doesn’t need to give interviews every month to say it himself”.

Earlier this week, in an interview with LaSexta , CR7 claimed he is the best player in football history: “I have never seen anyone better than me in football history and I am telling the truth, from my heart.”

Ronaldo went further when he said: “People can like Messi, Maradona or Pele and I respect that but to say that Cristiano is not complete is a lie. I am the most complete player”.

In addition, Ronaldo also affirmed that MLS is a lower quality league than the Saudi Pro League, where he is playing.

Carragher said Ronaldo went too far with his comments: “All interviews are pre-planned and you know the questions you’re going to be asked. It’s ridiculous that he lets his friends provoke him into saying things like that.”

Carragher was referring to Eduardo Aguirre, a Spanish journalist and close friend of Ronaldo’s for many years. Aguirre was the one who successfully convinced Ronaldo to do the above lengthy interview.

Carragher also compared Ronaldo to Messi: “I’ve watched Messi’s interviews and he always talks about his family, his clubs (past and present) and the national team. Leo doesn’t comment on others.”
