The Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase: A Classic Car with Modern Comforts

From 1955 through 1966, Rolls-Royce made the Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase. The third and last installment of the Silver Cloud series. Quad headlamps made the Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase easy to identify, and just 206 of them were built.

A 6.2-liter V8 engine with 280 horsepower powered the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Extended Wheelbase. The vehicle had a wheelbase of 127 inches and a curb weight of 2090 kg (4608 lb) (DIN) and 2165 kg (EU). The maximum speed of this vehicle was 104.7 mph (168.5 km/h), and it took 10.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h). Compared to the Silver Cloud III, which had a wheelbase of 123.00 inches, the Silver Cloud III Long Wheelbase featured a longer wheelbase of 127.00 inches.

Beginning in early October 1962, The Silver Cloud III was initially made available to the public at the Paris salon. A few minor changes were made to the exterior dimensions, the interior, weight reduction of about 100 kg (220 lb), and engine upgrades, including the installation of 2-inch (51 mm) SU carburettors in place of the 1+34-inch units used in the Series II Silver Cloud.

the Silver Cloud III was the first Rolls-Royce to receive the company’s new V8 engine. Although it had the same exterior design as the original Silver Cloud, the new engine provided more power, making the car more easier to drive.
